System Dynamics Demonstrations
Double Pendulum Simulation
Complexity Dynamic Behaviour
In dynamic problems, the structure does not need
to be complicated nor constructed from highly non-linear elements to
produce complex behaviour. Complex behaviour patterns can be produced by
connections of elements or component parts that individually are very
simple. How this can occur is demonstrated through the simulation
of the motion of a double pendulum. This is described
by McLucas (2005, Ch1) at DemonstratingDynamicComplexity-DoublePendulum.doc, and Double Pendulum - SDA.pdf. A system dynamics simulation
is at DoublePendulumDemo-SDA.sip.
